The Google Advertising Network

Greetings to everyone!
Today we will be learning more about the Google's Advertising Networks, which, as you would notice is in a direct conflict with the topic of our lesson. The reason is that Google does not have a single advertising "network" but rather advertisers can implement two different advertising "networks" as below:
  1. Google Search Network
  2. Google Display Network
With AdWords, your ads can show on one or both of Google's advertising networks: the Google Search Network and the Google Display Network. The campaign type you choose determines which of these networks your ads will appear on.
To get a brief idea of what we are about to discuss in this lesson, take a look at the video below:

Let us learn about both of these distinct advertising networks, each with its own merits and applications.

Google Search Network

The Search Network includes Google Search, other Google sites such as Maps and Shopping, and hundreds of non-Google search partner websites (like AOL) that show AdWords ads matched to search results. The Search Network can help advertisers do the following:

  • Show their text ads next to Google search results
  • Reach customers actively searching for their specific product or service

Example of where you see Google Search Network Ads

In very simple words, if you want to reach people actively searching for something which is in relation to what you want to advertise AND that you want to do text ads, the Google Search Network will be the best bet for you.

Google Display Network

The Display Network includes a collection of Google websites (like Google Finance, Gmail, Blogger, and YouTube), partner sites, and mobile sites and apps that show AdWords ads matched to the content on a given page.
The Display Network can help advertisers do the following:
  • Use appealing ad formats to reach a wide range of customers with broad interests
  • Build brand awareness and customer loyalty
  • Increase engagement with customers
  • Choose more specifically where their ads can appear, and to what type of audience

Example of where you see Google Display Network Ads

This is more of something like TV advertising. People aren't searching for what you are advertising but just because you think what you are advertising might interest the people who will see your advertisement to your product or service, which you are advertising, you choose to use the Google Display Network.

In the next article we will learn about these two advertising networks separately. Till then, goodbye and take care! :)
